All meetings are open to the public, however public may not intervene in the sessions.  Minutes of meetings may be bought from the Local Council at a charge of 2c per printed page.  Minutes are only available after they have been approved and signed by the Council.

Safi Day programme celebrations is now out !  The programme of activities include a Tree-4-U campaign to band marches, choir concert, a poetry recital, wine competition, exhibition of arts & crafts, elderly activity and a sports day.  View the full programme and obtain application forms here.

>>Mayor and Deputy Mayor Sworn in


Peter Paul Busuttil was sworn in as Mayor and Publio Abdilla as Deputy during the first meeting of the Safi Local Council on April 2nd.  During this meeting all contestants for the Safi election attended and had a drink together.

 

>>Safi Councilors take Oath of Office


On Thursday 15th March 2007, the newly elected councilor took their Oath of Office as councilors. Despite this date, they will assume responsibility as from April 1st, 2007.  The first council meeting will be held on Monday 2nd April during which Peter Paul Busuttil and Publio Abdilla are expected to be sworn in as Mayor and Deputy Mayor respectively.

 

>>Safi Local Council Elected


Once again it was a very close run between MLP and PN to obtain the majority of councilors and hence the leadership in the Safi Local Council.  After the 8th count only 2 counts separated the two parties with the PN winning the majority.  Peter Paul Busuttil (PN), Mayor since the first Local Council in 1994 will remain in Office.  Carmel Baldacchino (PN) councilor for the past legislation was not elected.  Jerome Busuttil (PN), Eddie Bonello (MLP) and Francis Callus (MLP) were all elected after serving in the previous legislation.  Jerome Busuttil (PN) will however loose his Deputy-Mayor role to newly elected Publio Abdilla (PN).  To view full results of the Safi Local Council 2007 election click here.

The Safi Local Council has compiled information about Safi which relate to its historical, cultural and social aspects.  This information is available in both Maltese and English.  The information can be used directly through the web-site for free or bought on CD or printed hard copy for a minimal charge.  This information was put together by the Council staff and edited and published by Jason Cutajar the executive secretary.  Follow this link to view this information.

 

>> Election Day - 10th March

On Saturday 10th March, the Safi Local Council will go for ballot to elect 5 councilors.  The current Councilors will however remain in office until March 31 with the newly elected Councilors taking over on April 1st. >> 10 Contestants for Safi Council

Eddie Bonello, Francis Callus, Patrick Farrugia, Carmel Fenech, Johann Mula shall contest on behalf of the Malta Labour Party,   Publius Abdilla, Carmel Baldacchino, Jerome Busuttil and Peter Paul Busuttil will contest the election on behalf of the Nationalist Party while Saviour Sammut will be contesting for Alternattiva Demokratika.  5 Councilors need to be elected.  The Alternattiva Demokratika is contesting Safi elections for the first time, however it's representative contested the first election as an inpedendent candidate.  Patrick Farrugia (MLP), Carmel Fenech (MLP), Publius Abdilla (PN) will be contesting their first ever elections.  It is also the first time in Safi that the MLP is fielding more candidates than PN when for three consecutive (1994, 1998, 2001) elections, MLP did not contest the Safi Local Council elections.
